KS3 ICT
Aims and purposes of ICT Curriculum
ICT offers opportunities for pupils to:
- Prepare students for participation in a rapidly changing world where activities are increasingly transformed by access to ICT;
- Develop initiative and independent learning skills;
- Gain rapid access to ideas and experiences from a wide range of people, communities and cultures.
These are acquired through four aspects of ICT study:
- Finding things out;
- Developing ideas and making things happen;
- Exchanging and sharing information;
- Reviewing, modifying and evaluating work as it progresses.
Year 7
Unit 1. Using ICT
Unit 2. Information and presentation
Unit 3. Processing text and images
Unit 4. Models - rules and investigations
Unit 5. Data - designing structure, capturing and presenting data
Unit 6. Control - input, process and output
Year 8
Unit 8. Public information systems
Unit 9. Publishing on the web
Unit 10. Information - reliability, validity and bias
Unit 11. Data - use and misuse
Year 9
Students will start the OCR National course. They will study two units of work. The students will ensure that they have the basic ICT skills that are used for businesses in the real work this will be covered in Unit 1. There are several short min-projects that will engage the student to provide evidence to be submitted in their work.
Unit 1- ICT Skills for business
- Files and folder management
- Using the internet and e-mail
- Creating Powerpoint presentations
- Promoting a product
- Using a spreadsheet
- Using a Database
Unit 21: Creating graphics for the World Wide Web
- Research graphics
- Designing graphics
- Create a Navigation bar
- Create Navigation Buttons
- Create an advertising Banner
- Present all the information to the client
If any student has completed the above then this will be count as one GCSE grade.
KS4 ICT
ICT is compulsory and the students there are two course which the school offer: OCR National and ICT Diploma. Please read the following on both courses.
OCR National
This will be a continuation of the work the students has learnt over the past year. This will led to a First Award in ICT equivalent to 3 GCSEs grade C or above.
ICT Diploma Level 1 (Foundation) Level 2 (Higher)
A new and exciting course specifically tailored to students who want to be taught differently and work with real clients in business.
ICT in Sixth Form
There are Level 1 and Level 2 courses here that will enable students to access different course as well as the traditional A-level course.
For Level 1 and Level 2 there is the ICT Diploma this will be taught in one year. More information to follow:
For Level 3 (Traditional A-level) the students follow Edexcel Applied ICT course. This is a two year course and if the students complete the two years with enough points then they can gain one full A-level.
