Primary Liaison through Business and Enterprise
- Make Your Mark with a Tenner (St Botolphs and Orton Wistow Primary School)
Students from St Botolphs and Orton Wistow Primary Schools will be joining with Business Studies Students at Orton Longueville School to Make Their Mark with a Tenner during February. Make Your Mark with a Tenner loans young people £10 for one month and challenges them to make as much profit and social impact as they can. We look forward to seeing the results of this in March.
- Primary Enterprise Challenge (Orton Wistow, Nene Valley and St Botolphs)
During the summer term, the Primary Enterprise Challenge draws on the 8 Enterprise Skills of Communication, Creativity, Planning, Problem Solving, Decision Making, Teamworking, Independence and Risk Management adopted by OLS, offering challenges throughout the day where students demonstrate each of these skills. Teams of 8 (mixed Year 5 and 6 students) from each Primary School compete against each other and are awarded points throughout the day for the successful completion of each challenge. Only one school can come out on top and our reigning champions are St Botolphs who are proudly displaying their winning trophy in their Reception area.
- Be the Boss (Orton Wistow, Nene Valley and St Botolphs)
Teams initial business ideas are taken on a step by step journey through design, marketing, financial planning, presentation and much more, all leading to thrilling grand finals. Educational benefits are vast as Be the Boss links Enterprise to the National Curriculum, fulfils Every Child Matters criteria whilst raising student self confidence.
- Chicken Enterprise (St Botolphs)
Students from St Botolphs Primary School have brought a business idea to life (quite literally) with their Chicken Enterprise and support from OLS. Carefully preparing a business plan and cash flow forecasts, they have been able to carefully budget and plan for the care of chickens, recouping their initial investments and sourcing ongoing funding for their project through the sale of their chickens' eggs.
- Business and Enterprise Week (Orton Wistow Primary School)
During the Spring Term Year 5 and 6 students take part in a Business and Enterprise Week where they are challenged to come up with a product or service to offer to their fellow students. Students are led through a planning workbook and delivered sessions on specifics such as finance, marketing and promotion and ideas generation/planning. Students' final products/services are developed and marketed culminating in a whole school bazaar at the end of the week. A highly positive experience of business developing students' enterprise skills and offering a great introduction to the qualities of an enterpreneurial individual.
